The Davis Family Legacy - Our Journey Begins
Every family has a story, and ours is just beginning to unfold. Our legacy traces back to 1870 in Alabama, where our great-grandfather Thomas Davis was born. Thomas had ten brothers and 2 sisters and was the fourth born. Their parents, Simon and Tener Davis, nurtured them in a time of significant change, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving family line
.
In October 1874, Florence Robinson-Davis was born in Louisiana to Thom and Elizebeth Robinson. Florence had several half-siblings with the surname Hynes from her mother’s previous marriage. On May 16, 1897, Florence married Thomas Davis in Richland, Louisiana, where they settled and raised 12 children. Thomas's entrepreneurial spirit led him to build a ferry, establish a store, and found a church, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Despite their achievements, Thomas and his family faced significant adversity. They were forced off their land in Police Jury Ward 4, Richland, Louisiana, where Thomas had established a successful farm and home. The family eventually relocated to Paden, Oklahoma, where they continued to thrive.
Later in life, Thomas Davis moved to Bakersfield, California, where he spent his final days living with his daughter, Eugene. He passed away in 1944 and was buried in Union. However, there are no records indicating that Florence joined him in California, and we are still researching the details surrounding her death.
As we gather more information and hold more reunions, we will continue to tell the story of the Davis family, ensuring that our legacy is preserved for future generations. We encourage any family members with additional information or corrections to share it with us, as your contributions are invaluable to our ongoing research.
